Because of You…

YouVersion’s simple mission is to make the Bible available to as many people as we can, in whatever language they prefer. While we partner with generous publishers to offer Bibles in the languages people need, there’s a lot more to YouVersion than that—menus, tools, and other resources—that all need to be translated. The only way we can make that happen is with volunteers—people just like you—working together, using their gifts to help share God’s Word with everyone. Of course, we never stop working to improve the Bible App, so there’s always more translation you can help with. If you’d like to help change the world by translating into Indonesian or Filipino (or into other languages), we’d love for you to partner with us!

Here’s just a taste of what it can mean in your own life when you volunteer to help YouVersion with translation, from two of our key volunteers in Indonesian and Filipino:

YouVersion Indonesian language volunteer Helen G.“I decided to volunteer for YouVersion because I have a desire to see more Indonesians have God’s Word, to read the Word in the language they understand the best so they can grow deeper in the knowledge of who God is, in faith and to love Him. Volunteering for YouVersion drives me closer to God, knowing His heart for the believers and unbelievers. It also motivates and encourages me to serve the Lord here in the States. Hopefully, we will serve Him in Indonesia soon.”
—Helen G., Lucasville, Ohio, U.S.

YouVersion Filipino language volunteer Tams L.

“I was so inspired and blessed by the excellent work and generous giving of time and effort towards building the Bible App that I decided I would like to help too. It feels great to get to work with people from various parts of the globe. I learn a lot simply from interacting with them. Twenty years ago, this would have been very difficult. Technology, however, has changed how things are done, and my prayer is that Christ followers may utilize technology in sharing with and helping one another.”
—Tams L., Quezon City, Philippines

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to translate for YouVersion? When we recently asked some of our translation volunteers to share their thoughts with you, here’s how they responded:

Italian Language Volunteer Radek C. Johan S.

“I was searching for a Bible app I could use to read the Bible on my Android phone. I work with a Christian student organization whose main purpose is reading the Bible together to learn what God has to tell us and how to apply it today. Because most students have smartphones, I realized good Bible software was as important for them as it was for me. And getting it into Italian was a must! I pray the Bible App will be a blessing for many Italians to find a deep, transforming encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ.”

—Johan S., Florence, Italy

Turkish Language Volunteer Radek C. Josh W.

“When I discovered the Bible App, its quality—and the fact that it offered Turkish translations of the Bible—made me want to see it in Turkish. While it’s been a joy to work with the team, picking up my Turkish friends’ smartphones and helping them install the Bible App (in Turkish!) was even better. YouVersion is now one of my primary Bible study and daily devotional tools. I’m excited to see what else God will do in Turkey through the ministry of YouVersion and the Bible App.”
—Josh W., Ankara, Turkey

“For a long time, I looked for some kind of service I would fit in doing. I wanted a background role, something I could do to help people get closer to God, but remain unknown (as opposed to speaking in front of a group of people). Online technology is one of my biggest hobbies, so when I found the opportunity to translate YouVersion’s mobile applications and website, that was ideal for me. When I joined a year and a half ago, I was welcomed more than warmly. It feels really good to work with the people of this community. I truly enjoy serving in this way.”

What’s it like to use your gifts to help YouVersion reach the world? We asked one of our key Japanese language volunteers to share some of her thoughts with you:

“As I live away from Japan, I don’t have many opportunities to directly share the Word with people in Japan. But being a part of the Japanese translation team enabled me to take part in spreading God’s word in a very unique way. The Word of God is powerful, as said in Isaiah: ‘As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.’”

—Tomomi G., Seattle, WA, U.S.A.
