We have Plans to help you meet your Bible goals.

Remember when you planned to get into the Bible more this year?
days-left-in-2016

You have 108 days to go.

And since you know many of those days will inevitably be swallowed up by busy seasons like Fall Break, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, you need a new plan. Fortunately for you, we have a lot of them. Here are several Bible Plans that you can still complete before year’s end… if you start now:

720x405

Bible in 90 Days
90 days • 36,000+ completions

Believe it or not, if you’ll commit to a fairly aggressive schedule (10-15 chapters a day), you can actually read through the entire Bible in just three months!

720x405-1

New Testament Epistles and Acts
85 days • 41,500+ completions

Read all of the letters (epistles) of the New Testament, then finish with Acts, the book that chronicles the events that Jesus’ disciples faced after he ascended into Heaven.

720x405-2

Old Testament: The Books of Moses
70 days • 5,800+ completions

Discover the history and tradition in the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Old Testament) in just a few chapters each day.

720x405-3

What’s in the Bible: Heroes of the Old Testament
25 days • 5,900+ completions

Through fun videos, daily Scripture, and short projects designed for reflection, Veggie Tales founder Phil Vischer introduces your children to many of the first people that God used to fulfill His plans for us.

720x405-4

60 to Start
60 days • 16,600+ completions

Get to know Jesus through the Gospels, see how His followers lived out His message through the epistles, and grow closer to Him through prayer.

720x405-5

Back to the Bible
60 days • 2,500+ completions

Find practical daily wisdom in brief devotionals from Pastor Dale O’Shields, each one selected to help renew your sense of purpose and passion for Christ.

And there are plenty more where those came from.

What does the Bible mean to you?

The Bible has had a tremendous amount of positive impact on individuals, communities, and the world, changing hearts and influencing generations. In a world full of brokenness, God’s Word offers hope and clarity.

So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
Isaiah 55:11

The #WhyBible movement was started to spark discussion about why the Bible matters, and to show how His Living Word continues to be relevant and life-giving today and for generations to come.

Here’s a story from a Bible App user about how God’s Word has impacted them:

I decided to get the Bible App to listen to what God has to say about my struggles. Now that I downloaded the app, my time on social media has decreased, and my time reading God’s Word and experiencing His presence has increased. The Bible really changed my life for the better.” — Bible App user

You have a story too. A story of how the God’s Word has impacted and changed your life for the better. That’s what #WhyBible is all about.

Here’s what you can do to participate in #WhyBible:

  1. Post how the Bible has impacted your life on Twitter or Facebook (make sure to use the hashtag #WhyBible in your post!).
  2. Share a Verse Image that has meant a lot to you on Instagram or Pinterest.
  3. Send a message to a friend with a link to download the Bible App.

Connect with Scripture… even offline.

Great opportunities to engage daily with God’s Word often happen when you don’t have a reliable Internet connection: on trains, on airplanes, or when you’re enjoying the outdoors. That’s why many Bible App features now also work offline. Sometime when you do have a connection, take just a few minutes to download a few Bible versions and subscribe to a Bible Plan (or several), and you’ll have them whenever you need them, even offline.3 And when you’re able to reconnect again later, the Bible App will sync your offline activity to your YouVersion account, making it available on all your devices.

Updating is easy.

This new release also includes several other improvements: bottom navigation that conforms to Google’s Material design specification, more refined control over your language settings, and a smoother sign in / sign up experience. Even with all of these improvements, we still managed to reduce the app’s size! How can you take advantage of all these great new features?

Screen Time that Draws Your Kids Toward God

lightstock_152737_medium_kyle

…love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders.

DEUTERONOMY 6:5-8 NLT

The idea of leading your children spiritually can feel intimidating. This passage from Deuteronomy makes it seem really involved, like it will fill our every waking moment. Even harder, we’re supposed to be the “grown-ups,” even though we’re still constantly working out how we live out our faith in our own lives. (That’s why it’s so important to stay connected to God’s Word to us, the Bible.) And, that’s actually what these verses are about:

Share your faith journey with your children.

The Israelites who originally heard this passage worked its principles into their everyday lives. They would write out passages from Exodus and Deuteronomy, tuck them into a small leather box (called a phylactery), then strap it to their wrist or their forehead. Devout Jews all around the world still wear these tiny boxes today, constant reminders of all that God has done for them, and of everything that they value. While that may sound strange to us, we actually do the same thing:

We carry our digital devices everywhere we go.

Smartphones and tablets are our always-on lifeline to the people in our lives. Wearables like fitness trackers and smartwatches constantly update us with the things we’ve told them are important to us. For us adults, these conveniences still feel new. But our children have been able to carry the Internet around with them for their entire lives.

Be intentional in how you use technology.

Train up a child in the way he should go;
even when he is old he will not depart from it.

PROVERBS 22:6 ESV

As important as digital media has become to us, it will play an even larger role in the lives of our children. Our partners at Scripture Union in the U.K. have been helping children engage with God and with the Bible for 150 years. That’s why they developed the Bible-focused Guardians of Ancora game app, and why they’re offering this Devotional Plan for families through the Bible App. Here’s their advice to parents about how we can fulfill God’s calling in our families:

717uCE1YuCLWith a high percentage of children spending over seven hours on phones or tablets each day (source: Kaiser Family Foundation study, 2010), let’s start where they are and help them to engage with Biblical material in a way that’s relevant and exciting. Then, the words God spoke to the Israelites recorded in Deuteronomy 6:1–9 will become a reality for your family. In particular, God’s people are commanded to immerse themselves in his commands and live them out daily in every situation they encounter. A huge challenge, but a challenge that starts in the child’s world.

Most of what our kids learn from us comes through the examples they see in our lives. If you’re making your spiritual life a priority, you’ll install apps that help you read, study, listen to, reflect on, and share the Bible. But not all the apps that you like weren’t designed for children. Yes, let your kids see you using technology to engage your faith… but also, equip them to make wise decisions about how they will use it. Just as you seek out music and movies that are age-appropriate for them, help them find the tools they need to draw closer to God.

Now we’d like to hear from you in the Comments below:

tools you’ve found to help your family
