This #GivingTuesday, reach the world.

givingtuesday-blog

This Giving Tuesday, a social movement that helps people give back by donating time, money, or influence to a cause that they feel passionate about. Giving Tuesday is celebrated the Tuesday after Cyber Monday as a day to encourage kindness and generosity.

The Bible App is always completely free, without any advertising or hidden costs. At YouVersion, we do what we do because God’s Word has the power to transform lives. We hope that engaging with God’s Word through the Bible App has drawn you closer to him. We’d encourage you to take the next step in your journey: Help other people share in that same experience by giving to YouVersion.1

5 ways you can help others connect with the Bible.

Wherever you are, inspire someone.

… Each of us did the work the Lord gave us. I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow. It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow.
1 Corinthians 3:5–7, NLT

A revolution is happening, a worldwide shift in how people connect with God (and with each other) by engaging with the Bible. The Bible App has now been installed in every country on earth, on almost 180 million unique devices. And holding each one of those devices is a person, a life poised to be transformed by the power of God’s Word. That person can then touch the lives of others all around them.

You can be that person.

Volunteer

God empowers each of us with unique talents and abilities. And when you use your gifts with YouVersion, you’ll discover opportunities to change lives and leave a lasting legacy.

Share Your Gifts

God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one is impervious to God’s Word.
We can’t get away from it—no matter what.

Hebrews 4:12–13, MSG

Invite people to the Bible App.

Tell your friends and family, in person or through social media, what you like about the Bible App, and how you use it. What’s your favorite Bible Plan? What does spending time in God’s Word do for you?

Share the Bible App

Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.
Ephesians 4:29b, NLT

Share your story.

Does the Bible App help you spend more time in the Bible? Do you have more direction? More peace? Are your relationships different? We’d love to know how the Bible App helps you do the things you want!

Tell Us Your Story

The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
James 5:16b, NIV

Pray.

Ask God to lead people to His Word, and to speak to them through it to change their hearts and lives. Pray that He will help those who are translating the Bible into other languages, and that He will prepare the hearts of people who have never had His Word before to receive it.

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
2 Corinthians 9:7, NIV

This includes not only Bible versions, but all of the menus, settings, and even reading plans. Simply select your desired language from the Bible App’s Settings, or set the language on your device. If you enjoy using the Bible App at YouVersion.com, you can choose from the list of languages at the bottom right. Whether you speak Finnish or Vietnamese, or you have friends who do, please help us spread the word on Facebook and Twitter!

Finnish

You can choose Finnish (Suomi) right now for your Bible App for iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch), Android, or at YouVersion.com. (Finnish is also coming soon to the Bible App for Windows Phone!) We offer four Finnish Bible versions: the contemporary Kirkkoraamattu 1992 (KR92) and the traditional Kirkkoraamattu 1933/38 (KINB38), both provided by the Finnish Bible Society, and the Finnish 1776 (FI1776) and Finnish 1938 (FINPR). Also, be sure you check out one of our 25 reading plans in Finnish!

Vietnamese

We’re also pleased to now offer Vietnamese (Tiếng Việt) on the Bible App for iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch), Android, BlackBerry, and at YouVersion.com. Look for any of our 25 reading plans in Vietnamese, as well as four different Bible versions. The Revised Vietnamese Version Bible (RVV11) is provided from the United Bible Societies, the modern Thánh Kinh: Bản Phổ thông™ (BPT) comes from the World Bible Translation Center, and the Ban Dich 2011 (BD2011) from the Rev. Bau Dang. You’ll even find the classic 1934 Vietnamese Bible (VI1934).

Because of You

The only way that YouVersion can make God’s Word available to as many people as we do, and in their own heart languages, is through the passionate work of a worldwide community of translation volunteers. These are people just like you who use their gifts to translate menus, settings, screens, and other key text so they can take part in seeing the Bible shared with the world. We never stop improving the Bible App, so there’s always more translation to do. If you can volunteer to translate into Finnish or Vietnamese (or other languages), we’d love to hear from you. Please join us. You’ll be helping people all over the planet fall in love with God’s Word.

We asked a couple of our key volunteers in Finnish and Vietnamese to share with you about why they love working with YouVersion to reach the world. Here’s what they had to say:

YouVersion Finnish language volunteer Juho A. (l) with YouVersion Global Partnership and Community Pastor Brian Russell (r)

“YouVersion translation felt like a natural way for me to contribute to the ministry. Serving others by using my native language (that I’m quite passionate about!) gives me great pleasure. I’m so grateful for the awesome fellowship that we have due to working together in the name of Christ.”
—Juho A., Espoo, Finland

YouVersion Vietnamese language volunteer Tien L.

“I decided to volunteer for YouVersion because I had always been called to the ministry of language translation. What an amazing way to help bring God’s Word to people in my country! Thanks to my experiences volunteering, I’ve come to realize that I did not truly appreciate the abilities and assets God has given me until I used them to serve Him. All glory be to the Lord!”
—Tien L., San Antonio, Texas, U.S.

YouVersion Bible App and Website Now in Slovak

For the first time ever, now you can select Slovak as your default language for the Bible App™ on several platforms, including iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch), Android, bada, and Java devices, as well as at YouVersion.com. If you’re already using the Bible App on a supported device, all you need to do is change your device’s default language to Slovak. And if you’re running the most recent version of the Bible App for iOS or Android, you can even select Slovak right from inside your Bible App Settings.

Slovak is YouVersion’s fifteenth major language update. Earlier releases included Korean, Spanish, Chinese, Brazilian Portuguese, German, French, and Japanese, to name just a few. (That doesn’t even consider the nearly 150 different languages we offer Bibles in.) As part of this launch, we’re even adding 25 Reading Plans in Slovak. Please share this exciting news on Facebook, Twitter, and face-to-face with all of your friends who speak Slovak.

Have you ever wondered how YouVersion can offer so many different languages? It’s certainly not because we know all of these languages. We’re only able to do it because people just like you choose to serve the global YouVersion community with their gifts in translation. Even though the Bible App has so far been downloaded more than 55 million times,  we’re only getting started. More and more new users join every day. Just imagine the impact you could make, literally worldwide, by translating just a few small parts of YouVersion—screens, buttons, menus, Reading Plans, and more! Learn how you can join us today at volunteer.youversion.com.

We asked one of our key Slovak language volunteers to share just a glimpse of what it can feel like to use your talents to help people all over the world fall in love with God’s Word:

“For a long time, I looked for some kind of service I would fit in doing. I wanted a background role, something I could do to help people get closer to God, but remain unknown (as opposed to speaking in front of a group of people). Online technology is one of my biggest hobbies, so when I found the opportunity to translate YouVersion’s mobile applications and website, that was ideal for me. When I joined a year and a half ago, I was welcomed more than warmly. It feels really good to work with the people of this community. I truly enjoy serving in this way.”
—Tomáš P., Bratislava, Slovakia

Japanese Now Available in the Bible App and at YouVersion.com

Thanks to our amazing community of translation volunteers, YouVersion.com and the Bible App’s interface on iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch), Android, and bada are now entirely available in Japanese. (And coming soon: Java devices!) If you already have the Bible App on a supported device, simply set the default language for your device to Japanese. And if you have the latest update of the Bible App for iOS or Android, you can even select Japanese directly in your Bible App Settings!

While we offer Bibles in nearly 300 different languages, Japanese is the fourteenth language YouVersion has launched across several platforms, including Korean, Spanish, Chinese, Brazilian Portuguese, German, and French, among others. For this launch, besides menus and controls, we’ve also added 25 reading plans in Japanese. With a population of around 127 million people, Japan has more than 120 million cell phones and 99 million Internet users, representing a tremendous opportunity to reach people with God’s Word. If you have friends whose preferred language is Japanese, please share this great news with them—and please help us spread the word on Facebook and Twitter.

Of course, making Japanese language options available across multiple YouVersion platforms wouldn’t be possible without help from our incredible YouVersion community. It can only happen when people who are passionate about sharing God’s Word share their gifts in translation with the world. And because we’re constantly improving the Bible App—and we’d like to offer even more—there’s always translation to do. If you can volunteer to translate into Japanese, we’d love to hear from you. Please join us. You’ll be helping the world fall in love with God’s Word.

What’s it like to use your gifts to help YouVersion reach the world? We asked one of our key Japanese language volunteers to share some of her thoughts with you:

“As I live away from Japan, I don’t have many opportunities to directly share the Word with people in Japan. But being a part of the Japanese translation team enabled me to take part in spreading God’s word in a very unique way. The Word of God is powerful, as said in Isaiah: ‘As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.’”

—Tomomi G., Seattle, WA, U.S.A.
