New in the Bible App for Kids: “In the Garden”: Peter Denies Knowing Jesus

Available now in the Bible App for Kids, “In the Garden” picks up where the story “A Goodbye Meal” left off. Based on the passages Matthew 26:31–75 and John 18:1–8, after Jesus finishes eating the Last Supper with His friends, they go on a nighttime walk toward a big garden. On the way, Jesus tells them that soon they will all run away and leave Him. One of Jesus’ friends, Peter, insists, “I will never leave you!” But Jesus tells Peter that before the sun comes up the next morning, Peter will say he doesn’t know Jesus — three times!

When they get to the garden, Jesus asks His friends to pray with Him. But because it’s very late at night, they are all so tired that they fall asleep, and Jesus talks to God by Himself. Jesus knows that bad men will be coming soon to take Him away, so He tells God, “Father, I wish there was another way… still, I will do just what you say.”

Just then an angry mob shows up with torches, waking up Jesus’ friends. Another one of Jesus’ friends who had left earlier during their Last Supper, Judas, is with them. Judas walks straight to Jesus and kisses Him — a secret signal for the temple police to arrest Jesus. Jesus tells them, “I’m the one you’re looking for,” and they all fall backwards onto the ground.

When they get up and grab Jesus to take Him to the religious leaders, everybody runs away except Peter. Instead, Peter sneaks after the crowd to see what will happen. Three different times during the night, people ask Peter if he is one of Jesus’ friends, and every time he tells them, “I don’t even know Him!” As soon as Peter realizes that he has denied Jesus three times — just as Jesus said he would — he begins crying.

In New Bible App for Kids Story, “A Goodbye Meal,” Jesus Shares the Last Supper with His Disciples

Available now in the Bible App for Kids, “A Goodbye Meal” is the story of Jesus sharing the last supper with His disciples. Based on passages from Matthew 26:14–16, John 13:26–30, and Mark 14:12–26, “A Goodbye Meal” explains why the religious leaders didn’t like Jesus, then shows the events that gave us the Communion we still celebrate today: to remember all that Jesus sacrificed for us.

Jesus tries to show everyone how much God loves them by healing sick people and giving food to people who are hungry. But some leaders don’t like the things that Jesus is saying (and they’re jealous of Him), so they want to make Him go away. They pay one of Jesus’ followers, a man named Judas, to tell lies about Jesus so that the police will arrest Him.

But because Jesus is God, He already knows their mean plans. He even knows that Judas is secretly planning to help the bad leaders get Him in trouble! Jesus sits down to have a nice dinner with His main twelve followers, called disciples. As they are eating together, Jesus tells Judas in front of everybody that He knows what Judas is planning to do. Jesus tells Judas to go ahead and get it over with quickly, so Judas leaves to go get the bad men who will take Jesus away.

After Judas leaves, Jesus gives pieces of bread to His friends who stayed, and He shares a drink with them. He tells them, “When you eat bread—and drink together, too—remember all the things I did for you.” Jesus tells them that all the bad things that are about to happen need to happen, because that’s how God has decided He wants to forgive all of the bad things that people do. After Jesus and His friends finish eating, they sing a song together, then go to a special garden to pray…and wait.

New in the Bible App for Kids: “Coming Home,” the Timeless Prodigal Son Story

Available now in the Bible App for Kids, in “Coming Home,” religious leaders ask Jesus why He spends time with people who do bad things. Based on Luke 15:1–3 and 11–32, “Coming Home” shows Jesus answering them by telling a story about a man with two grown-up sons: the timeless parable of the prodigal son.

Sometimes parents save up money to leave behind for their children after they die. But the younger son asks his father if he can go ahead and have his share of the money now, even though his father is still alive. This makes the father very sad, but he gives the money to his younger son anyway. The son moves far away and starts spending his father’s money on things he thinks are fun — but that are actually very bad for him.

Because the son keeps making bad choices, eventually he runs out of money, and he has to get a job taking care of pigs. Then the weather turns bad, and farmers can’t grow enough crops to feed everyone. The son gets so hungry, he wishes he could eat the pigs’ food. All of a sudden, he remembers: “Wait a minute — my dad is rich! If I go back home, maybe he will give me a job. Then I’ll have enough food to eat.”

When the younger son gets home, his father runs out to meet him. Even though he is embarrassed that he behaved so badly, his father is just so happy that he came home, he hugs him and tells him everything will be okay. This makes the older brother angry; he thinks it’s not fair that his younger brother wasted so much of their father’s money. But the father tells him, “Why are you angry? I have always shared everything I have with you. Your brother was lost, but now he’s found! Let’s have a party! He’s home safe and sound!”
