Announcing Family Bible Week

FamilyBibleWeek1

Change is in the air. For much of the world, this change in the seasons marks the start of family fun and celebration. Many families are planning activities to keep their school-aged children occupied during the summer season. Other families are planning the next season of their lives, as they celebrate their “kids” who are graduating. And this coming Sunday, families from many countries will celebrate their mothers, mothers-in-law, and grandmothers for Mother’s Day.

That’s why today we’re announcing Family Bible Week. Family Bible Week is our special summer kick-off event to help you draw your family together around God’s Word. Beginning this Sunday, May 10th, join us for a week of tips, ideas… and prizes!

Celebrate Mom. Share a Bible verse that honors your mother and expresses how much she means to you. (We’ll suggest a few of our favorites to help get you started.)

Pick a Family Bible Plan. Choose a Bible Plan that your whole family can read together. (We’ll share a list of Plans that we recommend.) And if you’ll let us know which Plan you’re doing by using the hashtag #FamilyBiblePlan, your family may even win a prize!

Share Your Story. How does your family let God’s Word speak into your lives? How do you keep your family centered around faith in Christ? We’d love to hear your story! This week, we’ll tell you the best ways you can share it with us.

Create a Family Verse Image. What’s your family’s “theme” Bible verse? Don’t have one? No worries! We’ll offer some tips for how your family can choose their favorite. And if you share your Family Verse as a Verse Image using the hashtag #OurFamilyVerse, we’ll be randomly selecting a few families to receive prizes!

Enjoy Family Story Time. The next all-new Bible App for Kids story arrives next Friday. We’ll tell you then what it is and how you can get it, so you can enjoy it together as a family — not to mention the more than 30 stories already in the Bible App for Kids!

And more!

In the weeks to come, we hope you’ll invest some of the time you’ll be spending with family to intentionally engage with the Bible together. We’re looking forward to helping you explore new ways that you can seek God’s wisdom and encouragement — together, as a family.

“…I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out — plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for. When you call on me, when you come and pray to me, I’ll listen. When you come looking for me, you’ll find me. Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed.”
Jeremiah 29:11–13, The Message

New Bible App for Kids Story: Jesus Returns to Heaven: “Into the Clouds”

In the latest story from the Bible App for Kids, “Into the Clouds,” Jesus takes his disciples to a mountaintop near Jerusalem, where he tells them all the things he wants them to do after he leaves. Jesus tells his disciples to go home and wait for a little while, and God’s Holy Spirit will come to them. “Then,” he says, “after that happens, go tell everyone about me.” When you tell other people what Jesus means to you, that helps them learn how they can love him, too!

Jesus promises his disciples, “I will always be with you.” Then he rises up into the sky and disappears into a cloud. And his disciples see the whole thing happen! They are still standing there on the mountain, thinking about everything Jesus just said, when two angels come. The angels tell them that Jesus has gone to Heaven, and that one day, he’ll come back the same way. Jesus’ disciples are excited and happy, and they leave to start doing all the things Jesus told them.

Jesus Sets a Man Free in a New Bible App for Kids Story, “Demons Destroyed”

“Demons Destroyed” is the newest story in the Bible App for Kids. Your kids will thrill at seeing Jesus set a man free from evil spirits that had been tormenting him for years. Based on Mark 5:1–20, as Jesus and his disciples are walking by a cemetery near the Sea of Galilee, they meet a very troubled man. When evil spirits that live inside the man beg Jesus to leave them alone, the man tells Jesus that he has “lots” of mean spirits inside him. Jesus tells the bad spirits they have to leave, making them go into a herd of pigs nearby. All the pigs run into a lake together and drown.

When the pig herders go tell the people in town what happened, everyone comes out to see for themselves. But when they see how different the man is, it makes them afraid, so they ask Jesus to leave. When the grateful man wants to go with Jesus, Jesus tells him he should stay and tell people his happy story instead — that when Jesus crossed the Sea of Galilee, he cast out “Lots” and set him free. And that’s just what the man did!

New Bible App for Kids Story: Peter Has a Vision: “Everybody’s Welcome”

In the latest story from the Bible App for Kids, “Everybody’s Welcome,” God shows Peter that Jesus is for everyone. Based on Acts 10, God sends an angel to a Roman officer named Cornelius. The angel tells Cornelius to send some servants to find Peter and invite him to his house. The next day while Peter is praying, God gives him a vision, showing him many animals that Jewish people were not supposed to eat. A voice from Heaven tells Peter to choose one of the animals to eat. Peter tells the voice that he is not supposed to eat those things. But the voice — which is God’s voice — tells Peter that, because God says it’s okay, it’s okay.

Just then, Cornelius’ servants arrive, inviting Peter to come with them to meet Cornelius. Peter takes some of his friends with him to Cornelius’ house, where a bunch of people have gathered, excited to hear what Peter might say. Peter realizes that the vision God gave him was about more than just what kinds of food were okay to eat. So Peter tells them, “God sent His Son not just for some… Jesus is for everyone!” The people are very happy, and they receive God’s Holy Spirit, just like the disciples did at Pentecost. Then Peter baptizes them.

Just in Time for Palm Sunday: Jesus Rides into Jerusalem in “The Donkey and the King”

“The Donkey and the King” is the newest story in the Bible App for Kids. Your kids will love learning about the first Palm Sunday, when Jesus fulfills Old Testament prophecy by riding into Jerusalem on a donkey. Based on Matthew 21:1–11, John 12:16–19, and Luke 19:36–40, Jesus rides into the city as crowds cheer, laying palm tree branches and their cloaks on the road in front of him to welcome Him. They’re hoping that He is the Messiah, the “Promised One” from God that they’ve been waiting for.

Palm Sunday: The Crowd Welcomes Jesus to Jerusalem

But not everyone is happy. The Pharisees are jealous at how much the people like Jesus. They tell Jesus that He should tell the people to stop cheering for Him. But Jesus tells them that if the people don’t cheer and shout, then the rocks will cry out!
