Bible App for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch Gets Major Update–Available Now

Version 3.3 of the Bible App™ for iOS (iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch) is in the iTunes App Store now! (Complete instructions for how to update are at the end of this post.) You’ll find this latest release packed with updates and improvements:

  • For the first time, you can select multiple verses at one time to bookmark, highlight, share, or create a note.
  • The sign-in/sign-up process is now streamlined for speed and clarity.
  • The Settings screen is redesigned to give you better access to more functionality like support and Reader changes. (Look for more updates here on our blog in the coming months…)
  • Navigating to another book, chapter, or verse is updated to reflect the way most people actually navigate Scripture. You should find getting around a lot faster and easier now.
  • Now you can use your Facebook account to sign up for your free YouVersion account, which will let you easily track your Bible reading, add notes and highlights, and share online—just a few of its many benefits.
  • Find technical support directly inside the Bible App. You can even send support requests through email that will automatically include all the information our Support team needs to answer your questions quickly and accurately.
  • YouVersion’s amazing community of volunteers has done it once again, making the Bible App’s Japanese interface even better.

A few new features are specific to iPhone and iPod touch only:

  • Now you can view Scripture in fullscreen mode by simply double-tapping on the Bible Reader. (Just double-tap again to return to normal reading mode.)
  • Highlight your favorite verses with custom colors and sync them online or on other devices that support this feature.
  • Bookmarks now offer advanced features like titles, labels, and highlight colors.

Latest Release of the Bible App for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch Now Available!

The latest release of the Bible App™ for iOS (iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch)—Version 3.2—is immediately available! You can get yours now in the iTunes App Store.

For this release, you’ll find several improvements and tweaks all around. For example:

  • The way you interact with reading plans is streamlined and much more intuitive, with a progress bar, calendar, and easier sharing options. When you’re looking for a reading plan, now you can sort by language. You can even listen to audio Bibles directly from your reading plan!
  • When selecting a Bible version, you can filter versions by language, so it’s easier than ever to find just what you’re looking for.
  • YouVersion Live works more smoothly, too, with a refresh option and some other improvements under the hood.
  • There’s also an assortment of bug fixes and performance enhancements.

Even more language options. Thanks to our always-awesome community of YouVersion volunteers, the Bible App and YouVersion are literally reaching the world. With this release, the entire interface is now available in Czech. And if you need help with the Bible App or YouVersion.com, you can find what you need in Simplified or Traditional Chinese (not to mention in English, Spanish, Korean, and Russian).

The Bible App for iPad: Now with Audio Bibles, YouVersion Live, and More

Although version 3.1 of the Bible App™ for iPad has lots to offer, many people will probably be most excited about audio Bibles, now available on iPad for the first time! Of course, before you can take advantage of these new audio features, you’ll first need to get the update, available immediately from the iTunes App Store.

With this update, we’re exploring some new ways to interact with the audio Bible component while reading Scripture. When you select a Bible to read that has audio, you’ll see a new small tab in the bottom right corner of the screen. Tap that tab to reveal the audio Bible player like the screenshot below. From there, you can play, pause, and move forward and backward within the chapter.

To see which translations support audio on your iPad, just look for the speaker icon [] next to the list of versions inside the app. Here are just a few examples you’ll find:

  • New International Version (NIV)
  • English Standard Version (ESV)
  • New Living Translation (NLT)
  • King James Version (KJV) Listener’s Bible
  • Douay-Rheims (DRA) New Testament Audio Bible
  • Chinese Standard Bible (CSB)
  • American Standard Version (ASV) New Testament
  • La Biblia de las Américas (LBLA), and
  • World English Bible (WEB)

Be sure to keep checking your Versions list, because we’ll be adding even more audio Bibles (and in more languages) in the coming months.

More for iPad. Also in this release, iPad adds full access to YouVersion Live Events for the first time, just like you’ve already been enjoying on iPhone. Lastly, one awesome new feature exclusive to iPad is that, as you begin typing Bible book names in Search, the Bible App will auto complete them for you—a huge time-saver!

iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. There’s so much to love in this release. No matter which portable Apple device you use to engage with the Bible, you should notice that chapters you’ve visited recently will load faster. And thanks once again to YouVersion’s awesome community of volunteers, if your device’s default language is set to Italian, you’ll discover that the Bible App’s interface is now much more intuitive for you.

Version 3.0 of the Bible App for iOS Available NOW

We’re thrilled to announce it’s now available in the iTunes App Store and as a direct browser download. Of course the Bible App always has been and always will be completely free, with no ads and no strings attached. Here’s all you need to do to get yours:

New Audio Bibles from YouVersion: ASV, WEB, KJV, and DRA

Audio Bibles on the Bible App™ for AndroidYou may know that in February, the Bible App™ for Android was the first YouVersion platform to get audio Bibles. And of course, we recently shared the huge announcement that audio Bibles will also be coming to the Bible App for iPhone/iPod touch literally any day now. Today, as a courtesy of several visionary partners, you can start listening immediately to the following Bibles on Android, and on iPhone/iPod touch the first day version 3.0 launches:

  • The KJV Listener’s Bible (KJV). Dramatic narration of the King James Version from Fellowship for the Performing Arts.
  • The Douay-Rheims Audio Bible (DRA). Steve Webb’s reading of The Holy Bible Douay-Rheims Version New Testament, with Challoner Revisions.
  • American Standard Version (ASV). New Testament Bible provided by FreeASV.org.
