A Prayer of Celebration

God,

Thank you for bringing a Community of believers together through Your Word. Scripture has changed our lives, transformed our hearts and minds, and revealed our deep need for You. Your Word is the reason the YouVersion Community exists.

God, we want Your Word to continue to spread across the world because it is perfect and true. Your Word never returns empty. Through Scripture, You have revealed what is good and wise. Your Word is full of promises that guide and light our way. It instructs us, guides us, corrects us, and comforts us. We want to see Your words continue to transform our world.

Provide us with more opportunities to share Scripture with others. And as You provide us with these opportunities, please make more hearts and minds ready to know You intimately.

Let us become the people You created us to be so that we can give You glory at all times. We are Your people, and we fully offer ourselves to You.

Who can you honor today?

Dear brothers and sisters, honor those who are your leaders in the Lord’s work. They work hard among you and give you spiritual guidance.

1 THESSALONIANS 5:12

When you think of a spiritual leader that positively impacted your life, who comes to mind? Maybe it’s a church leader. Maybe it’s a mentor who’s inspired you. Maybe it’s a friend or family member who helped your faith grow stronger.

How would your life look if they weren’t a part of it?

The past few years have been challenging for Christian leaders around the world. Everything we’ve faced, they’ve gone through, too—but they’ve also carried the burdens of people just like us.

What would happen if millions of people across the global YouVersion Community committed to praying for the people who’ve encouraged us?

Let’s find out.

Today, let’s honor the people who selflessly serve us by praying together for them.

A Prayer for Christian Leaders

God,

Thank You for placing Christian leaders in my life who love You and care about me. I have been shaped by their wisdom, compassion, kindness, and selfless love.

Today, I ask that You would show me how I can bless these leaders, just like they have blessed me. Let my gratitude remind them that they are seen, valued, and known.

Encourage them when they feel worn out, and renew their strength when they’re overwhelmed. Give rest to those who need it, and remind them of Your promises. Bless their families, strengthen their ministries, and expand their influence—for Your glory, and their good.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

Not sure what to pray for?

Talking to God doesn’t always feel easy, but if we want to know God more, then we need to know how to talk humbly and honestly with Him.

Here are three things that may encourage you as you draw near to God through prayer. Pick one or two points that stand out to you, and use them to create a Prayer in YouVersion.

1. Keep it simple.

God isn’t concerned about how eloquent your words sound—He just wants to spend time with you. Some of the best conversations with God happen when you simply share what’s on your mind and then give Him the space to respond.

Try asking:

God, what should I do about … ?

God, what do You think about … ?

God, would You … ?

God, why did this … ?

2. Keep it real.

God isn’t going to get mad at you for being honest, so be authentic when you pray. Remember, nothing can separate you from God’s love. So if you’re not sure what to say, tell God that. If you’re frustrated about a situation, say so. He wants you to approach Him with confidence and boldness.

Talk to God about a concern you have right now. Try saying:

I’m struggling with…

I need help with…

I don’t understand why…

I’m frustrated because…

3. Keep showing up.

Praying might feel awkward at first, but the more you do it, the easier it becomes. This week, continue to make prayer a habit by having at least a 5 minute conversation with God every day.

What’s guiding you?

Think about a decision you made recently. Maybe it was choosing what to wear for the day. Maybe it was figuring out whether or not to take a new job. Or maybe it was simply deciding to say “hello” to someone you didn’t know well. The average person makes thousands of decisions each day.

While our choices don’t carry equal weight, every choice we make contributes to the direction our lives take. The good news is—we don’t have to make decisions alone.

God’s Holy Spirit is with anyone who believes in Jesus, empowering them to live in a way that honors Him. So right now, think about a decision you need to make, and when you’re ready, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you.

A Prayer for Guidance

Holy Spirit,

You know my heart. You understand my deepest wants and needs, and You know my every intention. You know me better than I know myself. There is nowhere I could run to escape Your presence, and nothing I could hide from You!

And that’s why, right now, I am asking You to give me Your divine wisdom and guidance.

I don’t always know what to pray for. My soul is weary and I am tired. I often worry about making the right decision—but I want to live a life that honors You.

Even though I may feel like I can’t move forward or see what’s ahead—You see me. And You know me. So please guide me. Show me the paths that lead to abundant life, and convict me when I am tempted to stray from You.

As You guide me, restore me. I will place my hope in You at all times because You know all things, and by You, my life is held together. You are my strength in times of need, and You have become my salvation.

So hold me close, Lord, and teach me to walk in a manner worthy of the calling You have given me. Direct my steps as You guard my life, because I want to glorify You.

If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.

GALATIANS 5:25

If you consider yourself a follower of Jesus, then the Holy Spirit is always with you, equipping you to live a life that honors God and encourages others. But although we have access to the Spirit at all times, living a Spirit-filled life involves intentionally seeking God every day.

When we allow God’s Spirit to convict, challenge, and change us, He transforms the ways we think and act.

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

GALATIANS 5:22-23

The “fruits” of the Spirit are distinct yet interconnected—together, they prove that we are allowing God to shape every part of our lives.

The choices you make will always mirror what you are allowing to direct and guide your heart. So right now, take a moment to re-read Galatians 5:22-23, and ask the Holy Spirit to show you what areas of your life you need Him to transform. Then, when you’re ready, pray the following prayers with us.

A Prayer for Love

Father God, thank You for showing me what true love looks like. Please perfect me in Your love by showing me the parts of my life that are not in line with Your Holy Spirit. Show me where I am selfish, self-serving, and easily angered, so that I can surrender those things to You and allow You to replace those traits with Your selfless love. Transform me into someone who loves others just like You love me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Prayer for Joy

God, thank You for giving me constant access to Your presence. Because You are always with me, I can experience true joy at all times. Although the joy You give isn’t based on my circumstances, I don’t always live a life marked by joy. Too often, instead of trusting You, I let my problems dictate my reactions. Please forgive me! Fill me with Your joy and peace, so that by the power of Your Holy Spirit, I may abound in hope at all times. Help me to live a life marked by undefeatable joy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Father God, I often find myself overwhelmed by circumstances that are beyond my control, and I am easily distracted by things that don’t matter. Please forgive me for not consistently placing my trust in You. Even when I am faced with intense situations, You are still with me.
