The words of Jesus on the cross

The words of Jesus on the cross

The seven sayings of Jesus from the cross are a powerful and significant aspect of Christian theology and tradition. These are the final words spoken by Jesus before his death on the cross, and they offer insight into his divinity, humanity, and ultimate sacrifice.

Each saying has a profound meaning and serves as a reminder of the incredible love and grace that Jesus showed to humanity through his life and death. These sayings have been studied and reflected upon by Christians for centuries, and they continue to inspire and comfort believers around the world today.

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

Luke 23:34

Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

Luke 23:43

When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.

John 19:26-27

About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).

Matthew 27:46

Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.”

John 19:28

When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

John 19:30

Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.

Luke 23:46

On My Way to Heaven: The story behind a song, with Dennis Quaid

In the movie I Can Only Imagine, Dennis Quaid plays Arthur Millard – Bart Millard’s abusive father. It was this role that allowed Quaid to finish a song he had been working on for years. In this video, he shares the story behind the song and the impact his faith has had on his life.

“The question I had as I went around the world was, ‘Who is God?’ I became a seeker really. I read the Bible cover-to-cover. For me, it’s the red words of Jesus – how simple it is. There really is redemption in that.”
