New for the Bible App for Android: Verse of the Day Widget

YouVersion now has another helpful widget for the Bible App™ for Android. The Bible Verse of the Day widget displays an inspirational verse every day, right on your device’s home screen. If you’d like to read the verse in its context, simply tap it, and the widget will take you directly to that verse in the Bible App reader.

Also included in this release—thanks once again to the world-changing community of YouVersion volunteers—is the addition of Ukrainian, Norwegian, Italian, Romanian and Japanese as interface options. What that means is that when you select one of these as the default language for your device, you’ll see all of the controls and menu options for the Bible App in that same language.

To get this widget and the new language options, you’ll need to update to the newest version of the Bible App for Android, version 3.1, available immediately in the Android App Market.

How to Add Your Widget:

Note: Remember, you have to update to the newest version first.

  1. Go to your Home screen.
  2. Make room on your Home screen for another widget
    (removing other unused icons and widgets if necessary).
  3. Tap Menu.
  4. Tap Add.
  5. Tap Widgets.
  6. Tap the “Bible (Verse of the Day)” item.

Happy Easter from YouVersionToday, Easter Sunday, holds a special place in the hearts of people who have chosen to follow Christ, no matter where they may live in the world. Our prayer is that our entire YouVersion community would experience a unique joy today as we all consider together what God’s gift, Jesus’ sacrifice, means to each of us personally.

At the center of this faith—whether you call yourself Christian, believer, follower of Christ, or something else—all of us share one constant: the Bible. For the last 2000 years, people devoted to sharing the Good News of Christ’s love have literally poured themselves out—many even at the cost of their lives—to make sure that the rest of us would have the opportunity to experience that same introduction to Jesus that ultimately, radically changed their lives. And now, in our day, we have literally hundreds (even thousands!) of ways we can experience a connection with God’s Word.

At YouVersion, we love the Bible. It’s always been our singular passion to make it freely, easily available for as many people to engage with it as possible. Whether it’s with the Bible App™, with YouVersion.com, with your treasured paper Bible, or any of the many excellent Bible resources broadly available, please spend some time today in the Scriptures, seeking what God would say to you personally.

YouVersion: Now in Twice as Many Versions, 40 Languages

Faster than ever before, we’ve been making new Bible versions and languages available in the Bible App for mobile devices and at YouVersion.com. Less than two weeks ago, YouVersion had 54 Bible versions in 24 languages. Today, you can find almost 110 versions of the Bible, representing 40 languages! And we’re just getting started. Our goal is for every person to be able to freely, easily engage with God’s Word in their own “heart language.” So in the coming weeks and months, expect to see a lot of new additions.

For now, check out YouVersion’s first Thai, Danish, Armenian and Ukrainian Bibles. There are even three ancient Greek New Testaments (SBLG, TR1624, TR1894) for the scholars among us! But with far too many new Bibles to list, we’d encourage you to go explore the list for yourself. Versions are sorted by language, so you can quickly drill down to find one you might enjoy. Also, please encourage your friends and loved ones to try out the variety and diversity YouVersion has to offer. There’s something for everyone.

Version 3.0 of the Bible App for iOS Available NOW

Bible App™ V. 3.0 for iOS Splash ScreenA few days ago, we shared some cool details about the newest version of the Bible App™ for iOS (iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch): Version 3.0. We’re thrilled to announce it’s now available in the iTunes App Store and as a direct browser download. Of course the Bible App always has been and always will be completely free, with no ads and no strings attached. Here’s all you need to do to get yours:

If you already have the Bible App installed:

  1. On your Apple iOS device, tap the App Store icon.
  2. When the App Store opens, tap the Updates icon.
  3. Tap Update for the Bible App
    OR
    Tap Update All.

If this is your first time installing the Bible App:

  1. On your Apple iOS device, tap the App Store icon.
  2. When the App Store opens, tap the Search icon.
  3. Search for Bible.
  4. Tap the Bible App from LifeChurch.tv.
  5. Tap the FREE button.

The Bible App for BlackBerry from YouVersion: Now with Audio Bibles!

Audio has come to the Bible App™ for BlackBerryThey’re here! Free audio Bibles are now immediately available in the Bible App™ for BlackBerry. If you have a BlackBerry device, before you can try out audio Bibles, you’ll first need to get the latest version of the Bible App™ for BlackBerry, 3.2, either from BlackBerry App World or as a direct browser download.
Once you’ve updated your device, you’ll be able to listen to the Bible being read to you in your car, while you’re exercising, while you’re working, or even as you read along. So far, the Bibles you can listen to include:

  • New International Version (NIV)
  • English Standard Version (ESV)
  • New Living Translation (NLT)
  • King James Version (KJV) Listener’s Bible
  • Douay-Rheims (DRA) New Testament Audio Bible
  • Chinese Standard Bible (CSB)
  • American Standard Version (ASV) New Testament
  • La Biblia de las Américas (LBLA), and
  • World English Bible (WEB)
