50 New Bible Versions. 39 New Languages.

See where you fit in.

We live in an extraordinary age. All over the world, people are looking for meaning, seeking answers to life’s big questions. Inevitably, that means many will be discovering the Bible for the first time. The fact that half of the world’s population now has a mobile subscription (up from just one in five 10 years ago) — means that God has entrusted our generation with a historic opportunity:

To one day meet each person with a Bible, wherever they are.

Of course, when people first encounter the Bible, they can only read it (or listen to it) if they can find it in a language they know. More than a billion people still don’t have the full story of God’s Word in their own language. And of these, 2,000 language communities don’t even have Bible translations started. Thankfully, YouVersion’s visionary Bible society partners are actively working on new translations…and then sharing those Bibles — for free — through the Bible App and at Bible.com:

Translating, proofing, printing, and then finally distributing Bibles to new people groups used to take up to thirty years. Now, when partners send us new translations, as soon as we upload them onto our servers, they become available worldwide…within minutes. And since last October alone, these partners have already provided us with 50 new versions in 39 new languages. (The complete list appears below.)

Their work is changing the hearts and lives of millions.
Here’s how you can be a part of it:

A worldwide spiritual revolution (sometimes called the “Gypsy Revival”) is spreading among the more than 7 million Roma people dispersed around the globe. Many Roma still travel widely as a part of their culture, so when Romani ministers began looking for Bibles for their people, Bible societies agreed that freely available mobile Bibles would be the perfect solution. Through United Bible Societies, several organizations worked together to digitize all of the portions of Scripture they could find in various Romani languages and dialects…and then generously provided Bible texts like E Nevi Viasta o Psalmo and Embéo e Majaró Lucas. Today the global Romani Church is in many ways a living example of the kind of biblical community described in Acts 2:44–47.

The Maromak Manfatin in Tetum (also spelled Tetun) is another New Testament Bible we were privileged to add recently. Tetum is the primary language for 73,000 people in East Timor, as well as for 429,000 people in Indonesia, where this girl lives. Provided by Wycliffe, the Maromak Manfatin Bible was translated using modern methods specifically designed to preserve the meaning of the original Greek text. Translators also took great care to use clear, natural Tetun language, presented in an everyday style that would be easy for ordinary people to read and understand. Because of the work of the passionate people at Wycliffe, today hundreds of thousands more people have the opportunity to experience God’s Word in their heart language.
