Luke introduces Jesus as promised king of Israel and God’s son who announces good news to the poor. Jesus is portrayed as a new Moses who will liberate Israel through a new Exodus.

Luke traces Jesus’ journey to Jerusalem, which becomes an education in discipleship for his followers. Israel’s resistance to Jesus’ message culminates in his death and resurrection, which opens up hope for all nations.

Luke continues Jesus’ story by showing the Holy Spirit is sent to make the disciples into a new temple. Through them, Jesus and the Spirit will carry on the mission of God’s kingdom in the world.

Luke traces how the Spirit-empowered messianic movement in Jerusalem becomes a multi-ethnic international movement that spreads all the way to Rome.
