NEW! Offline Bible Versions Now Available on Android!

Yes, you read the title correctly. Offline Bible versions are now available for download through our Android Bible app!

Until now, offline Bible versions were only available to our iPhone and iPad users, but today marks a new era of Bible engagement. Now millions of Android users will be able to read the Bible anywhere, anytime, whether they are connected to the Internet or not. This is a significant update for several reasons:

  1. Our awesome (and patient) Android users finally get the feature they’ve been asking for most.
  2. Offline access means more opportunities to engage in Scripture!
  3. The growth of the Android platform means hundreds of millions of people will be given the ability to interact with the Bible all over the world, even when they are offline.
  4. The YouVersion Bible app for Android is already fast, delivering Scripture with blazing speed over a web connection. But now that you can have Bible versions stored directly on the device, loading Scripture will be faster than ever.

We hope you love this update as much as we’ve enjoyed bringing it to you. The update is available in the Android Market now.

Try it now!

To download a Bible version on Android:

  • Go to the list of Bible versions by tapping the top bar, then tap the top right box.
  • In the list of Bible versions,
    offline available versions
are signified by small download icons on the right side. When you tap one of the download icons, the download will begin and a progress bar will appear.
  • Once the version has been downloaded, that Bible version will have a green and grey icon on the left side on the list so you know it’s available offline.

  1. This is fantastic! Is there any plan to…

    1.) Add the Latin Vulgate?
2.) Add a Koine Greek version?
3.) Have a Bible that has all the books? All the English Bibles are missing 7 books in the Old Testament 🙂

    I’m thinking:
    – Amplified (with Deuterocanonical books)
    – KJV (original version with Deuterocanonical books)
    – NAB (St. Joseph Edition)
    – RSV 2nd Edition and RSV 2nd Catholic Edition
    – Douay-Rheims (English, pre-dates and influenced the KJV)

  2. I have no problem with rebooting after downloading a Bible for offline use. I have Droid X OS 2.2 FroYo on Verizon.

  3. Love the downloading version. But if I have the app on the SD card, does that mean the versions I download are there as well? I want to make sure they go to the SD card.

  4. That is awesome! What about us BlackBerry users? Do you foresee the BlackBerry user base getting in on the free download bible for offline use? I use the HCSB and would like to get it before it expires in January.

    Keep up the great work!

  5. What about the users of a blackberry device?is there an offline version for them?

  6. Just downloaded the offline version for my HTC Evo with no problems.Thank you for making this an even greater program, hope to be able to get the amplified also sometime. Thank you, Paul aka The Mayor 🙂

  7. Any plans to make ESV available for the Blackberry? This is my favorite version, and I don’t have signal at my church. I value YouVersion because of the features and access to other translations, but it’s really off putting to have no way to use it at church.

  8. Trying to download the offline bible versions on the droid 2 (v 2.2 OS). It doesn’t show any icons on the right of the translation which then makes it impossible to download offline versions. Thought I’d let you know and see if you know of any fixes for this issue?

  9. The downloads worked fine for me, no problem. There are many translations available for download including KJV, NKJV, ESV, HCSB, Message, NCV and God’s Word to name a few.

  10. This is what I’ve been waiting for! Great so far. Is there the ability to store offline Bibles onto SD card?

  11. Can these offline bible files be made available for drect download via PC?
I have been failing to download them via my android mobile phone for about 2days now.

    Thank you.

  12. This is great, thanks! Could you also make the reading plans available offline? Ever since the big update a couple months ago I can’t access my reading plan unless I am connected via wifi. Even a super strong 3g signal doesn’t work 90% of the time.

It worked flawlessly 100% of the time before the update even with almost no signal.

    1. And I should add this problem seems limited to just the reading plans…Bible passages still load most of the time even with a low signal.

  13. Hi thanks heaps for the downloads, I am just wondering if the NIV will be available for download. Thanks again.

  14. Hi,

I tried to download some versions on my android phone and it hasn’t been allowing me to. What could be some possible reasons for this? I do have the latest version of youversion.

  15. Sadly, the new version is totally broken and I can’t scroll – I get a force close – rendering what WAS my favorite app useless. Still, great job getting the Bible out there freely to all those who need it! Blessings, Mark

  16. You guys are awesome! Thank you for all that you do to make it easier for the world to read the and live the word of God!
